137th Preakness Stakes Logo Unveiled

The Lefler Agency has designed the logo for the 13 consecutive years.

On Wednesday The Maryland Jockey Club unveiled the logo for the 137th Preakness Stakes. 

"The 2012 Preakness logo depicts the horse and jockey as repeating stylized graphics with curved elements that convey movement. The type treatment is simple and modern. Overall, the logo uses the traditional Maryland colors of red, gold and black," according to an email announcing the logo.

The Preakness, which is the second leg of horse racing's legendary Triple Crown, is the largest spectator event held in North Baltimore. The 137th Preakness is scheduled to take place at Pimlico Race Course on May 19, 2012.

The future of Pimlico Race Course, which is adjacent to the Mount Washington neighborhood, has been a concern for residents.

The amount of racing days and the number of people coming to the track has sharply declined in recent years. But the Preakness Stakes remains the one major draw each year to the historic track.
