Calvert School Plans Expansion

The school wants to expand its lower school facilities and build a lecture hall for the middle school.

Calvert School, located in the Tuscany-Canterbury neighborhood, is looking to do a little expanding.

Stephanie Coldren, a school spokeswoman, said the private school does intend to expand its lower school and middle school facilities.

The changes include making more space for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students as well as its admissions department.  A lecture hall will also be added to the middle school.

Coldren said the move is intended to make the facility better for current students and not expand the number who can attend the school.

“We’re not doing it to increase enrollment at all,” Coldren said.

Previous expansions of the school, especially the extension of the school to an area once occupied by a Johns Hopkins University fraternity house, have been controversial with neighbors.
