Chef Ramsay Revisits Café Hon

The celebrity chef was checking up on the eatery featured on his reality show in February.

Chef Gordon Ramsay was back in Hampden at Café Hon on Wednesday to see how the restaurant is holding up after its makeover late last year.

The restaurant was featured on the celebrity chef’s reality show Kitchen Nightmares in February.  During the episode, owner Denise Whiting, apologized for trademarking the colloquialism “Hon,” which caused a series of protests that Whiting said nearly forced the business to go under.

The episode left the restaurant facing a brave new post “Hontroversy” world in Baltimore, and Ramsay is reportedly in town to film for a retrospective show.

According to Baltimore Magazine, Whiting said her biggest issue currently is finding a new chef.

Whiting’s annual HonFEST is scheduled to take place on June 9 and June 10.

The last time we took our kids there, the service and the food was so horrible, we will not go back. For example, my son ordered a hamburger. I made sure the waitress knew that if it arrived with cheese, he would not eat it. 45 minutes later, our food arrived. Sure enough, he got a cheeseburger. We sent it back. The chef scraped off most of the cheese and sent it back to us. We won't be going back.

DC ... I hear ya .... slow service .. and I really don't think that it is all the fault of waiters & waitresses ... they can only work with what there.... I do not blame you for your decision .. again Oh that she would just GO AWAY ... and take all her stuff with her .

I had a great dinner there with friends a few weeks after the show. It's good, comfort food. This whole "hon" thing really seems like got blown way out of proportion. Some people have a whole lot of free time.

GSP... not sure if you are from the area ... but it goes far beyond the "HON" thing .. if you want to eat there that's your right ... I will not give Denise Whiting my time or my money .. I as many others in the area just wish she would pack up and go away ....

I eat there all the time. While I found the trademarking of hon to be tacky, I think residents have overblown this issue. My mother has called me hon for 40 years, so it's not as if I don't relate to it. I'd love to see people protesting on behalf of far greater concerns for the city like the crime and schools.

I rarely have any problems with the food and have always found the staff friendly. Of course, I don't go in with a chip on my shoulder, so that helps.
