Commuters Bike to Work in Mt. Washington
The event is used to promote cycling as a healthy and environmentally friendly way to commute.
At about 8 a.m., Friday Katie Gore sat in front of Joe’s Bike Shop at Mt. Washington chatting with two riders making their commute via bike.
Gore, an employee at the shop and Bike Maryland, said about six of 25 people who had registered for Bike to Work Day had passed by the shop, which was listed as a participating location. The Baltimore Metropolitan Council sponsored 18 separate Bike to Work events throughout the Baltimore area.
"We’re usually pretty light because we’re so far out [from downtown]," Gore said. "But we get the best people."
Bike to Work Day is an annual event held to promote cycling as an environmentally friendly and healthy way to commute.
Stephen Nichols, of Towson, who works at the Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, said he’s been participating in Bike to Work Day for about three years.
"It’s not that far. I don’t do a lot of bike riding but it seem doable," Nichols said.

I live in Mount Washington and bike to work most days. It's three miles to Reisterstown Road Plaza from my house and the bike is the way to go. The only snag on Bike to Work Week was a flat which I haven't had time to get fixed. (I really need to learn how to do that. Fortunately I had my beater commuter bike to rely on. Biking to work rules.

This was the 1st time in 4 years that I didn't participate in bike to work day. I miss the days I used to be able to bike to work. Good for all those who did.

I would definitely bike to work, but I would definitely die along the way! How about some real bike lanes!!
