Elected Officials Tout YouthWorks at Hampden School

Elected officials visited the Academy of College and Career Exploration on Tuesday to promote the YouthWorks summer jobs program.
Gov. Martin O'Malley, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young and Del. Shawn Z. Tarrant were all present at the event. They also helped the students plant trees on the school's property.
The students are working to help "green" school grounds as part of their horticultural education.
In April, O'Malley included $1.13 million in the state's supplemental budget to help fund 900 summer jobs for youths. The mayor and Baltimore City Council also approved $1.6 million in funds to support the Youth Works program.

I was so pleased with this story and how nice it was done. Kudos to the Photographer and the Newsman. I am particularly proud because my grandson is a student of ACCE Academy, but more important, he is a part of this project thru the Youthworks program because of Governor O'Malley, Mayor Rawlings-Blake & C. C. President Jack Young. As a young man he is learning a trade, responsibility & getting him prepared for future jobs. Thank you all for your coverage of this event. Special Thanks for getting me in the video. I'm the one in the green. I feel like a celebrity. LOL
