Franciscan Center Wins William Donald Schaefer Award

The nonprofit won the award for its work providing emergency services to the city's poor.

Comptroller Peter Franchot presented the Franciscan Center—located in the Old Goucher neighborhood—the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award on Tuesday.

The nonprofit was given the award for its work providing poor residents with emergency services, such as providing food, according to a press release.

Franchot is giving an award to an organization in each of the state’s 24 jurisdictions. He created the award to honor Schaefer’s legacy of public service, according to the news release.
