Hampden Goes Hi-Fi

A live outdoor concert series in Roosevelt Park is scheduled to begin on June 8.

Starting June 8 there will be a new addition to Roosevelt Park: live music.

Starting next month Hampden Hi-Fi will host concerts in the park for eight consecutive Fridays. In addition to family friendly music, there will be local food and beer vendors during the events.

"The intent is to raise awareness of the park and the [Roosevelt Recreation] center," said Genny Dill, one of the events organizers.

The first event will be held as an unofficial kickoff to HONfest, which will be held in Hampden on June 9 and June 10.

Some proceeds from the events will also benefit programming at the Roosevelt Recreation Center.

"It’s all grassroots, it’s all community organized," Dill said.

Although the entire lineup of bands for the summer hasn’t been set, The Backpages Band are scheduled to perform on June 8 and Mister Wilson is also set to perform on June 16.

Dill emphasized that the event is meant to be family friendly so that children can come enjoy the park and music with their parents.

"[The music] doesn’t necessarily have to be all tame and Barney like, we don’t want it to be boring, but our musicians will clean it up so its not offensive to kids," Dill said.
