Hundreds Gather for Mount Washington Fourth of July Celebration

Parade, tributes a focus of annual event.

Hundreds of Mount Washington residents gathered for the neighborhood’s annual July Fourth celebration and parade on Monday morning.

Festivities kicked off at the Springwell senior living community where the National Anthem was sung, the Pledge of Allegiance recited and the Preamble to the Constitution was read.

Former neighborhood improvement association president Cliff Mitchell presented a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol to Caroline Tufts in tribute to her late husband Chris.  For years, the July Fourth festivities began in the Tufts’ front yard.

The parade featured a fire truck, antique cars and lots of kids on bikes.  Included among those honored were Baltimore City Teacher of the Year Jenn May and Mount Washington resident and recent retiree Terri Lough.

The celebration continued at Springwell, where Paul Yutzy and the Giggmore Brothers provided the musical entertainment and residents of the facility enjoyed interacting with neighbors and children.
