Letter to the Editor: Kudos BSO

A Wyman Park resident praises the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's Family Concert Series.

Dear BSO,

I attended the Family Concert Series with my 3 year-old daughter during the 2011-2012 Season. Thank you so much for putting on these great programs! We loved every one. I was most impressed with the format of the concerts, catering to young people (and novice adults!) in a way that made the music and concert experience accessible to them. Each of the participating conductors had a way of explaining the music and creating a listening experience that was exciting. In my mind, the interaction between the stage and audience was ‘instrumental’ in piquing the interest of those in attendance. The guest appearances of the Folk band, the puppets, cartoonist and photographs also added great variety.

As a former (amateur!) musician myself, I know what it feels like to be part of an orchestra and to appreciate music in all its forms. I am hopeful that with exposure to the BSO through your Family Concert Series, my daughter will also grow up to appreciate music and perhaps learn to enjoy it on her own!

Keep up the good work. I am so grateful!

Best Regards,

Diana Shea
