Neighborhood Institute Aims to Improve Communities

The Greater Homewood Community Corporation's neighborhood institute helps communities innovate.

Maintaining urban neighborhoods—let alone moving them forward—can be a daunting task for residents and community leaders.

One North Baltimore nonprofit is trying to provide those fighting for neighborhoods in North Baltimore with the resources to be more effective.

For the fourth straight year, Greater Homewood Community Corporation held its neighborhood institute on Saturday. For the first time it was held in the York Road corridor at Govans Presbyterian Church.

The nonprofit used the day, through discussions and panels, to provide residents with the information they need to help their communities become more vibrant.

Classes and panels were held on a variety of topics, ranging from helping local businesses use social networking websites to organizing a block captain program.
