Phone Thief Caught Hiding in Car

The robber also tried to steal the woman's purse and failed.

A man who stole a woman's iPhone, and failed to snatch her purse, was arrested shortly after committing the crime.

The woman was waiting for a bus at about 6:30 p.m. on June 27 in the 500 block of East 33rd Street on June 27 when a robber snatched her cell phone, but was unable to wrestle her purse away, according to a police report.

The woman then notified a nearby officer who sent out a description of the robber to other officers in the area, Maj. Sabrina Tapp-Harper said.

The robber was caught a short time later a few blocks away trying to hide in a car under some covers, Tapp-Harper said. She used the arrest as an example of Northern District officers being deployed correctly during an interview Tuesday about the district’s midyear crime statistics.
