Police: 1 Man Responsible for Villages of Homeland Robberies

Sgt. John Fernandez said the robber is taking advantage of a poorly lit neighborhood.

Northern District detectives believe one man is responsible for a rash of home invasion robberies in the Villages of Homeland.

Sgt. John Fernandez told residents at Wednesday’s York Road Partnership meeting, that the robber, who wears a mask and has used knives and guns during the crimes, is taking advantage of an area that is not well lit.

"The incidents are happening at night. It’s dark. The community is not well lit. You can literally hide anywhere in the community," Fernandez said.

He said the robber has been taking advantage of residents who are not being vigilant. He urged anyone who sees someone suspicious to call the police.

"First and foremost is to get the incidents to stop. Second find out who it is, bring them to justice and let him answer for what he’s done," Fernandez said.

The latest incident occurred in the 5200 bock of Downing Road where he apparently climbed onto a second floor balcony and forced a door open a resident stepped outside to have a cigarette.

On March 18, the robber was armed with a handgun and entered a home through an unlocked door in the 300 block of Homeland Southway, and demanded cash from the resident.

In February, a pair of women were chased into their apartment in the 300 block of Homeland Southway, although earlier reports indicated there were more than one robber.
