Rock Music Tour Volunteers Help Restore Green Space at Hampden School
With a little help from some friends, Blue Water Baltimore and others turned a parking lot into green space.
The environmental nonprofit Blue Water Baltimore, with help from students, Baltimore City employees and volunteers from the Vans Warped Tour, built a green space and outdoor classroom at the Academy for College and Career Exploration on Monday.
Volunteers helped dig up asphalt and stone aggregate to make way for a new layer of soil to be put down on the three-quarter acre space.
The project, which includes a mural created by artist Michael Owen, will keep nearly 1 million gallons of stormwater runoff annually from entering local waterways.
The green space was financed with a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust, Baltimore City and corporate sponsors.
