The Department of Transportation ripped up man holes along West 36th Street to perform "utility structural adjustments."

During the last week, man hole covers were torn up in the center of West 36th Street in Hampden's commercial corridor. Parking in several of the blocks was prohibited.

So what was all the work for?

Department of Transportation spokeswoman Adrienne Barnes said the work was being done for "utility structure adjustments."

Barnes wrote in an email that the department will be back to resurface the street "in a couple of weeks."
