Forty or so folks from neighborhoods north, south, east and west of Avon Avenue beat the heat and humidity to celebrate another birthday with 14th District City Council representative Mary Pat Clarke with cake from Giant Foods and red balloons from Hermans Discounts.
Diane Wilson of 29th Street composed a poem which was read aloud during the free outdoor public party before the singing of “Happy Birthday” and the cutting of the cake.
A Tribute
What can you say bout Mary Pat?
Well she’s a bag of chips and all that
When you deal with “The Clarke”
Her bite matches her bark
If or when you need something done
Her staff is most capable, “Hon”
And her promises are far from hollow
In due time focused action will follow
If she can’t in a flash follow through
She will faithfully get back to you
It may take some time, don’t give up
She’s one person drinking from many cups
Just have faith that she’s our Mary Pat
And for her people she’s going to bat
Things get tough and may seem unsurmountable
But this dynamo holds people accountable
Even tho we may often times bug her
She needs to know how much we all love her
So please don’t lose your spark
Cause you’re “our” Mary Pat Clarke
And we don’t put many above ya
Your friends and constituents love ya
Happy Birthday Mary Pat!
From all you so tirelessly serve
