American Breast Cancer Foundation "Fashion Saves Lives" Event a Huge Success

The American Breast Cancer Foundation’s inaugural “Fashion Saves Lives” event went off without a hitch last Tuesday at Port Discovery Children’s Museum in Baltimore. The event raised more than $10,000 in support of the Foundation’s mission to provide direct financial assistance for breast cancer early detection screenings and diagnostic tests to those who could not otherwise afford them, regardless of age or gender.

More than 225 attendees packed the house to support the cause, including several members of the Baltimore-area media. Guest models included the Baltimore Ravens’ own, Ed Dickson; media personalities, Sarah Caldwell of WBAL-TV and Sharon Gibala of WJZ-TV; international fitness industry expert, Lynne Brick; medical director of the Johns Hopkins Breast Center on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus, Dr. Mehran Habibi; and 10 lovely breast cancer survivors. Baltimore Ravens defensemen, Jameel McClain and Arthur Jones made guest appearances, along with the 2014 winner of the Ms. Delmarva pageant.

Lynne Brick, Brick Bodies Fitness Services’ co-founder, stated, “Congratulations to ABCF for coordinating an amazing event. Everything from the hair and makeup by FX Studios, to Keith Scott’s professional emcee magic, to the fashions provided by Jones and Jones, and Jos. A. Banks; the evening was poetry in motion! Fashionably smart from head to toe, ‘Fashion Saves Lives’ helped bring awareness of the good deeds ABCF does every day to help save lives.”

The event kicked-off with a pre-show reception, where guests toured Port Discovery Children’s Museum and enjoyed a “Taste of Baltimore” food sampling from several area restaurants, including Baklava Couture, Joe Squared, Leinenkugel’s Beer Garden, Luckie’s Tavern, Mary Mervis Delicatessen, Memsahib Restaurant, MEX Tequila Bar and Piedigrotta Bakery. VIP ticket holders enjoyed access to the VIP Lounge, catered by Talia’s Cuzina, where they mingled with models and guest celebrities. Exhibitors set up booths showcasing their products or services, and offered giveaways to attendees.

“We could not have asked more from this inaugural event. It exceeded expectations,” said ABCF CEO Jacky Loube. “The smiles and enjoyment provided by and for the many participating breast cancer survivors and the overwhelming support of volunteers, sponsors and Port Discovery made for an absolutely joyous evening. The plans for an even better event next year are taking place.”
