Port Discovery Children's Museum Introduces "Play Date Mondays"

Port Discovery Children’s Museum announced today that it is introducing “Play Date Mondays.” Throughout July and August, Port Discovery will not be taking reservations for external summer camp groups on Mondays, giving families the opportunity to visit the museum without the additional crowds.

“Obviously, summer is a busy season for Port Discovery as we offer a fun day of learning through play for both children who are out of school for the summer and our area summer camp groups,” said Michelle Winner, Vice President of Marketing, Port Discovery. “To provide the best possible experience for our family visitors, we are now offering one day a week when they are welcome to enjoy our exhibits without the added crowds of camps and other groups.”

Port Discovery is open from 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday, and 12pm-5pm on Sunday. The museum offers three floors of interactive, educational exhibits and programs for children ages birth through 10 years. Current exhibits include:

·         Wizard of Oz Children’s Educational Exhibition – Open until September 15, this traveling exhibit celebrates the film’s 70th anniversary and takes children and families on an interactive fantasy-adventure through Kansas, Oz, Munchkinland, the Emerald City and more.

·         Adventure Expeditions – (Ages 7 and up) Part physical adventure and part mental obstacle course, children travel back to 1920s Egypt and decipher hieroglyphics and clues to find a pharaoh’s lost tomb.

·         Harvest Hill – (All ages) Encourages children to barter, sell or trade their new products at a roadside market.

·         Kick It Up! – An indoor soccer stadium that offer hands-on programs to get children’s arms and legs moving and hearts pumping to promote fitness through play.

·         KidWorks – (Ages 5 and up) A three-story urban tree house that lets kids climb, crawl, jump and slide.

·         Miss Perception’s Mystery House – (Ages 6 and up) Enables children to use their detective-sharp research, literacy and problem solving skills to solve a mystery.

·         Nano – An engaging and interactive mini-exhibition about nano-scale science, engineering, and technology for family audiences.

·         The Oasis – A quiet room where families can lounge on pillows and read a book together, play a game or solve a puzzle. Circle time is offered daily.

·         Royal Farms Convenience Store and Fill’er Up Station – A mini interactive convenience store that helps kids make healthy food choices.

·         StudioWorkshop – (Ages 2 and up) Encourages children to express their artistic sides with a variety of programs.

·         Tiny’s Diner – (Ages 2 and up) A realistic 1950s-style diner where kids can "cook" and serve food to their parents while using their math skills to ring up orders at the cash register.

·         Tot Trails – (Ages birth – 3) A whimsical exhibit that enables infants and toddlers to learn about Maryland’s heritage while exploring some of the state’s unique landmarks and landscapes.

·         Wonders of Water – This water-filled exhibit helps children understand human interaction with water in fun, exciting and interactive ways.
