'Baltimore Messenger': Roland Water Tower Sound After Earthquake

Residents in surrounding neighborhoods have been trying to rally support to rehab the 106-year-old water tower.

The 106-year-old Roland Water Tower did not sustain any damage from Tuesday's earthquake, according to the Baltimore Messenger.

According to the article, city contractors said the eight-sided tower fared well despite the tremor that shook the area Monday following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Virginia.

Residents have been trying to restore the water tower, and there's been a bevy of activity surrounding it in recent months. In July, Preservation Maryland awarded a $2,500 grant for an engineering study of the Roland Water Tower. Residents also held a concert and celebration in June to help raise awareness about community efforts to r.

It's expected to cost about $1.2 million to rehab the property.

The tower was built in 1904-1905, but was no longer being used by 1930 when the city switched to reservoirs to provide water.
