Event Highlights African-American Tennis Players

A discussion and documentary examine the role of the Druid Hill Park tennis courts in the struggle for civil rights.

The Village Learning Place is holding a Baltimore History Evening event about the role of tennis-playing African-Americans, and how their fight to use the courts at Druid Hill Park played a role in the struggle for civil rights.

Harriet Lynn, producer and artistic director of Heritage Artists’ Theatre Consortium, will moderate a discussion Thursday night with African-American tennis pioneers about their experiences with integration and tennis at Druid Hill Park, according to the Village Learning Place’s website.

The program includes showing the documentary Tennis, Everyone! The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Village Learning Place.
