Face it: You're Not Winning Powerball

You have a better chance of being killed in a shark attack than winning Wednesday's $425 million jackpot.

If you’re banking on tonight’s Powerball drawing to make you rich, you better find another plan.  

The odds are actually better that you will be struck by lightning, attacked by a shark or dying in an airplane crash than having a winning ticket.

On a $2 play the chance of winning are one in 175,223,510, according to the Powerball website.

By comparison, the chance of dying in an airplane crash is one in 11 million. 

At one in 3.7 million you're much more likely to die in a shark attack.

You have a much better chance of being struck by lighting, in fact a one in 700,000 shot.

The chance of being killed by a firearm during an assault is much more likely—one in 340.

The safest bet, at one in 106, is that you may be killed in an incident involving a motor vehicle.
