Hampden Seeks Parking Solutions

The Hampden Community Council will meet on Monday to discuss the parking crunch in the neighborhood.

Hampden residents will begin the process of trying to solve one the neighborhood’s lasting dilemmas when the community meets to address parking.

The Hampden Community Council will meet, at 7 p.m., Monday at the Roosevelt Recreation Center, so residents can discuss the parking issues and how to solve them.

"The conversation has been going on for sometime and obviously parking is always an issue in Hampden" said George Peters, the chairman of the city’s zoning committee.

He said the need to address the neighborhoods’ parking issues has increased because of new businesses on The Avenue in addition to the new residential developments at the No. 1 Mill, Rotunda and possibly the White Hall Mill.

"This is not going to be fixed in one meeting. It’s a big issue and always present," Peters said.

Although the meeting will function as a kind of brain storming session, where community members talk about the parking issues, Peters said he doesn’t want it to turn into a situation where only problems are discussed.

"What we’re also expecting from people, since they’re living with these problems, is that they come with some sort of solution to their problem," he said.
