More Tunes at the Tower

Residents will again try to raise awareness and funds for the preservation of the Roland Water Tower.

Friends of the Roland Water Tower will again host a concert on Saturday to help raise funds for the landmark.

From noon to 3 p.m. at the intersection of Roland Avenue and West University Parkway supporters of the tower will hold a free concert to help raise awareness and funds for the preservation of the tower.

There will also be a beer Garden sponsored by The Wine Source in addition to pumpkin painting and a scavenger hunt for kids, according to the Roland Park Civic League e-letter.

The tower was built in 1904-1905 as part of the city’s water system, but was out of use by 1930 when the city switched to a reservoir system to provide residents water.

In April, members of the area's General Assembly delegation from the state to help begin the restoration of the tower. But those funds cannot be used until the city and community also spend $250,000 to restore landmark.

It’s estimated that it will cost at least $1 million to stabilize the tower with has been severely damaged by neglect during the past several decades.
