Picnic Kicks Off Remington Cleaning Campaign

The Greater Remington Improvement Association will host the picnic on Saturday.

A Remington community group is hosting an event to promote its efforts to win the mayor’s Clean Community Competition.

The Greater Remington Improvement Association will host a picnic featuring live music, flower pot decorating and trashcan giveaways at 11 a.m., on Saturday at 2701 W. 27th St.

The event will also feature cold drinks from , dessert from and iced coffee from .

Judith Kundst, president of the Greater Remington Improvement Association, said the picnic isn't an official part of the competition, but a community event designed to create excitement about cleaning the neighborhood.

Communities in the city will be competing to win one of four $5,000 first place prizes that will be awarded to neighborhoods that make the greatest strides in improving their sanitation.

According to the mayor’s website, neighborhoods will be judged on criteria such as overall increase in recycling tonnage, community use of trash cans with lids and decreases in alley and street trash.

The winners will be announced in October during the Mayor’s Fall Clean Up.
