Rec Council Hosts Fundraiser to Right Budget

The Roosevelt Park Recreation Council is hosting a rare summer fundraiser.

The Roosevelt Park Recreation Council tries to avoid hosting fundraisers in the summer.

It’s usually too hot for the Roosevelt Park Recreation Center’s air conditioning to keep the center cool.

But a tight budget, which the council incurred while going through the process of incorporating and becoming a nonprofit, has forced the it to host a June fundraiser, council President Lisa Meyers said.

Friday at 7 p.m. the council will host a quarter auction to fundraiser at the recreation center. Participants can place 50 cents bids on items, such as a pair of Orioles tickets and parking pass.

The recreation council provides supplementary supplies the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks can’t afford. Meyers said the council recently purchased items such as frozen pops for the center’s after school program.

The council has also purchased larger items for the recreation center such as a scoreboard for the gymnasium.
