Tonight's North Point Peninsula Meeting Includes Hosanna House Info

Edgemere residents are invited to North Point Peninsula Community Coordinating Council's meeting tonight at Edgemere Elementary School.

A community meeting to discuss the proposed Hosanna House, a social services program for 14 homeless men, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Edgemere Elementary School.

The discussion will be hosted by the North Point Peninsula Coordinating Council during its regular monthly meeting.

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is proposing housing the program at St. Luke Catholic Church's former convent on Lodge Farm Road in Edgemere.

The Catholic organization now owns the building and wants to create a shelter for homeless men ages 60 and older.

Many community residents oppose the plan, citing the proximity to St. Luke's Place—a senior housing community—a preschool and other nearby residential areas.

Catholic Charities officials talked about the proposal at a meeting on Oct. 8, at the convent building.

While Catholic Charities, Baltimore County government and St. Luke's Place employees spoke in favor of the program at that time, no local residents embraced the idea.

Federal grant funding has been secured for the program, according to Catholic Charities officials.

They hope to have the program open in early 2013.

Catholic Charities officials said at the Oct. 8 meeting that they would make an effort to be more open with the community and schedule information meetings with residents.

Editor's Note: This story has been changed to reflect the meeting's correct starting time of 6:30 p.m.
