Weekend Event in Roland Park Promotes Environmental Consciousness

"Seven Generations" celebrates a weekend of eco activities in North Baltimore.

Roland Park is hosting a weekend of environmentally conscious activities and events called "Seven Generations." The weekend is planned to culminate on Sunday with "ciclovia"—an event that will close Roland Avenue's southbound lanes to cars between Northern Parkway and Cold Spring Lane.

SATURDAY

Roland Park Native Plant Sale                                                                                 

  • When: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.                                                                                       
  • Where: Roland Park Elementary and Middle School, 5207 Roland Ave. 
  • What: Hundreds of native plants for sale, perfect for Roland Park homes. 

Bryn Mawr School RE-USE Yard Sale

  • When: 8 a.m. to noon                                                                                          
  • Where: Bryn Mawr campus, enter at approx. 600 W. Northern Parkway
  • What: Benefits Habitat for Humanity’s Build a Block program.

  • When: 9 to 11 a.m.                                                                                          
  • Where: Roland Park Elementary and Middle School, 5207 Roland Ave.
  • What: Fun events for children, composting demonstrations and more.

  • What: Offering a delicious lunch of fusion cuisine with a strong Indian base. 

Music, Poetry, Movies and More

  • When: 12 to 3 p.m.
  • Where: Enoch Pratt Library, 5108 Roland Ave.
  • What: Relax with local musicians, students reading their work, take in a film or simply visit with neighbors.

Blue Water Baltimore's Rain Garden Open House

  • When: 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Where: 207 Hawthorne Road
  • What: Visit an installed residential rain garden in Roland Park and learn how you can do it too. 

SUNDAY

Roland Park Civic League Ciclovia

  • When: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Where: Roland Avenue from Northern Parkway to Cold Spring Lane
  • What: Southbound Roland Avenue will be closed to cars, but open to walkers, cyclists, chatting, yoga and more. 

Bike Maryland's Bike Rodeo                                                           

  • When: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Where: Roland Avenue at Deepdene Road
  • What: Children up to 12 years old, will be taught basic bicycling skills by trained Bike Ambassadors, and given certificates for participating. 

Walk/Bike/Bus to School and Work

  • When: May 16 to May 20
  • What: Spend a week using your feet, instead of your car, to get to school and work. You will find that you enjoy the reduced noise, pollution and expense.
