Waverly BookFest 2012 with Poetry in Community

Poetry in Community and the Waverly Library are hosting a fantastic series of youth (as well as adult) centered events during the Waverly BookFest on September 8th (next Saturday). The highlight of the events will be a series of PoeTrees, on which kids and adults will attach poems they’ve written during our on-site workshops (from 10-2). The trees themselves will be planted in a poetry reading and tree planting ceremony at Chestnut Hill Natural Lounge on September 29 for the 100,000 Poets for Change global poetry event.

All details about the 8th are below and the event flier for the 29th is attached. I encourage you to come, write poems and talk to the library staff and our partners (the community and our neighbors).

Waverly BookFest, Sept. 8, 2012, from 1pm to 3pm – Max Bent entertains and engages through demonstrations of skill and musical games. Participants will learn about the elements of music through beatboxing, such as dynamics, duration, and pitch, and are encouraged to join in the presentation.

Poetry in Community invites you to share your poetry and be a participant in the creation of a unique poetry happening called PoeTree. Join us as we add your poems to a few healthy, ready-to-be planted trees at the Waverly Library from 10am to 3pm.

Then, on Sept. 29th, as part of One Hundred Thousand Poets for Change, join us again to read the poems, plucked from the branches like fruit, as we plant the trees at the Chesnut Hill Natural Lounge.

Waverly Library is located at 400 East 33rd Street
