Giant to Buy Hampden, Parkville Fresh & Green's

Giant Food is buying two former Superfresh locations in Hampden and Parkville from Fresh & Green's, which had taken over the stores less than a year ago.

Giant, the Baltimore area's largest grocer, announced the deal today with Mrs. Green's Management Corp. on Friday to buy the locations at  in Hampden and 7709 Harford Road in Parkville.

“Giant Food is excited about the opportunity to remodel and open two convenient locations for Baltimore-area customers,” Anthony Hucker, president of Giant Food, said in a statement. “We look forward to making significant improvements to the stores and to offering our unique combination of quality, value and service, which customers have come to expect from Giant for more than seven decades.” 

Both stores will close for renovations when the deal is complete. A timetable for the changeover was not announced.

As part of the deal, Giant will close its in the Rotunda. All 125 employees at the two purchased stores will be offered jobs with Giant Food, and all employees currently at the Rotunda location will remain with the company, according to the press release.

Officials with Fresh & Green's expect to continue operations at its five other Maryland stores, all of which were purchased last year when most of its locations in the state.
