Hampden Landmark Reaches 94 Percent Occupancy Rate

The former Victorian era Northern District police station has been renovated for commercial use.

Despite a rough economy, the former Northern District police station, now known as The Castle at Keswick and 34th, is 94 percent leased, according to the City Biz website.

Miller Investments, a real estate investment and development firm, has leased 2,200 square feet and the Baltimore Dance and Fitness has leased 3,000 square feet in the old police gymnasium, according to the article.

The former police headquarters was built in 1899 and served as the station until 2001.

At the time the redevelopment of the building took longer than expected and the developer, irked nearby residents when the company  attempted to tear down one of the historic building’s walls.

The building also maintains some historical quirks, such as the old jail cells in the basement of the station and the stables that run east on 34th Street where the police used to keep horses.
