Hampden Merchants Launch Storefront Decorating Contest

For the first time merchants will be holding a decoration contest and the winners will be named in time for the Mayor's Christmas Parade on Dec. 4.

There’s something new going on for the holidays this year in Hampden.

The Hampden Village Merchants Association is holding its first storefront holiday decorating contest.

“Since this is the first contest, we are keeping the rules fairly loose. There isn't a theme, though eventually the contest might evolve to have one,” Missi Kibelbek, the association's vice president, said in a news release.

The contest has been scheduled to coincide with the association’s First Friday events and the annual Mayor’s Christmas Parade.

The 17 merchants competing must complete their decorations by Sunday and will be judged next Monday by the merchants association.
