Liquor Board Preliminarily Approves Santorini’s Liquor License

The Greek and Italian restaurant hopes to open sometime next week.

Santorini Greek and Italian Cuisine received preliminary approval for a liquor license Thursday, and its owner said he hopes to open the establishment next week.

The Baltimore City Liquor License Board approved the beer and wine license after the York Road Partnership community group, and Councilman Bill Henry supported the application because owner Mohammad Izadi agreed to limitations on the license.

"We’re all very excited about having a breakfast place on York Road that is open at 6 a.m.," Henry said.

According to a menu submitted to the license board, the restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, and will serve breakfast in the mornings along with a mix of Greek, Italian and American dishes the rest of the day. The restaurant will be able to sell beer and wine to customers for consumption on the premises.

Before the liquor license is officially issued, Izadi must still provide several documents from agencies, such as the fire and health departments, to the license board.

During the hearing Henry praised Izadi and the various communities along York Road for working together to reach an agreement regarding the liquor license.

"We’ve had all the cooperation we could ask for," he said.

Izadi told license board members that he would like to open the restaurant some time next week. The restaurant was eligible for a license beause Izadi documented that he spent more than $200,000 on renovations, and it will seat more than 75 people.

The building where the restaurant is located, 5723-5721 York Road, has mostly sat vacant since the owners of Field's Old Trail Tavern sold the business in 2007. At that time the liquor board allowed the license to transfer to the new owners, who tried to reopen as Govan’s Old Trail Bar and Restaurant, but that venture failed to come to fruition.

In April 2012 the original Field's Old Trail Tavern liquor license was deemed invalid by the liquor board because of inactivity.
