Ravens Winning Boon for Hampden Business

Sandy Piper, owner of Sandy's in Hampden, said she sees a boost in the sale of Ravens items when the team does well.

Sandy Piper, owner of , is doing pretty good business selling Ravens gear at her store.

“When we win, we sell. That’s why you see all those Orioles hats sitting over there,” Piper joked.

Piper, who has been in business for 25 years, said she started selling Ravens gear about five years ago. It started with caps, but then customers began asking why she didn’t carry items like jerseys and t-shirts.

Since then, she said the items always sell well. The die-hard fan will always wear their Ravens gear and often needs new threads.

But its not until the team starts winning that business really starts to heat up. This is when casual fans start buying Ravens gear, too. She held up a t-shirt crowing about the Ravens winning the AFC North this year.

You can’t sell those if the team doesn’t win, Piper said.

The big item heading into this weekend’s tilt with the Houston Texans is t-shirts reading “Houston, You've Got a Problem.”

Piper, who was born and raised in Hampden but now resides in Cockeysville, said she’s feeling pretty confident about the Ravens’ playoff chances.

She’s predicting the Ravens will take on the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl and win by 10 points.

“I think we’re going to tear Aaron Rodgers up,” Piper said.
