The Senator Theatre will close on Friday for up to nine months for renovations, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.

The renovations of the historic art deco theater are expected to cost about $3 million and will include restoring the main auditorium and adding three new screens to the building that opened in 1939.

James “Buzz” Cusack and his daughter Kathleen Lyon took over operation of the theater about a year and a half ago, and are expected to invest about $900,000 in the project. The theater has also received andfrom the city to help pay for the renovations.
