Visions for Vacancies: 5723 York Road

Patch wants to know what you think should fill this vacant commercial space.

Fields Old Trail Tavern was once a fixture on York Road.

The Fields family had run the tavern, located at 5723 York Road, since 1934 and the upstairs was lined with sports memorabilia from the Orioles and Colts. It was a neighborhood bar, and the kind of establishment where you could find residents and Loyola students eating a hamburger and having a beer.

However, Linda and Edward Fields decided to sell their business in 2007 because they were tired of commuting to the city from White Hall in Baltimore County.

The tavern was taken over by new ownership, and renamed Govan’s Old Trail Bar and Restaurant.

But the new owners—who also unsuccesfully tried to extend the business into liquor sales in the former Maenner's Market next door—were unable to keep the business afloat.
