Arc Baltimore Honors Notre Dame University

The Arc Baltimore recently presented its annual Intern Service Award to the Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy.

For four years, students from the School of Pharmacy have been coming to The Arc’s Family Education Series to care for a room full of kids. They do this so that the parents can attend The Arc Baltimore’s education programs.

The students play and read, run after the toddlers, help middle-schoolers with their homework, watch Disney movies, and dry tears. The Arc Baltimore could not afford to pay for childcare for 15 kids each month, so this service is vital.

In addition to the childcare, the students share their expertise in pharmacy. They hold health fairs at The Arc Baltimore’s day centers and do medication audits that help The Arc’s nursing staff.

“The Arc is grateful for this service and are thrilled that these future pharmacists will be more effective due to their rich experience in supporting adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” says Stephen Morgan, Executive Director of The Arc Baltimore.
