Sinai Hospital Plays a Role in New Ripken Foundation Youth Park

It’s all about the kids!

That’s why Sinai Hospital donated funds to help build the new state-of-the-art Park Heights Youth Development Park. The facility is designed to give children in West Baltimore a safe place to play basketball, baseball and football, as well as to take part in other sports, fitness, education and character development programs.

Sinai’s gift of $50,000 to this Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation project was used to construct the on-site basketball court.

Sinai representatives joined Cal Ripken Junior, Baltimore City officials, other dignitaries and community members at a recent ribbon-cutting to open the facility.

“Sinai is committed to help our neighbors with their physical health and their emotional wellbeing,” said Martha Nathanson, the vice president of Government and Community Engagement at LifeBridge Health, Sinai’s parent company. “When children play basketball, they are learning about teamwork, leadership and exercise, as well having as good old-fashioned fun, so this fit our mission to a tee.”

Cal Ripken Junior was on hand and explained that giving children the chance to shine on and off the field was always a priority for his dad and that the foundation is carrying on his father’s legacy. In addition to Sinai, the Ravens and Baltimore City are among the many partners that turned the dream of this park into a reality.

As soon as the dedication ceremony was over, children took to the fields to run, jump and play. The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation plans to build 50 similar fields around the country in five years in often underserved communities.
