Council President Young, CPHA and Local Personalities Give Seven City Students the Opportunity of a Lifetime.
City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young will join Fertile Ground lead singer Navasha Daya, on-air hosts from radio station 92.3 FM (Konan, Angel and Black), former Motown Records Executive Virgil Simms, and hundreds of city youth and adults to cheer on the seven finalists in Council President Young’s inaugural Charm City Talent contest, which is being produced by the Citizens Planning and Housing Association (CPHA).
Several months ago hundreds of city youth auditioned at seven recreation centers throughout Baltimore for the chance to compete in Council President Young’s inaugural Charm City Talent contest. Students under 18 competed as singers, rappers and instrumentalists. A panel of talent experts selected one finalist from each site, and the seven finalists will compete on Thursday for the Charm City Talent crown. The event is free and open to the public. The winner of the competition will receive an artist development package including a professional photo shoot and a recorded demo CD courtesy of Task Force Marketing, the opportunity to perform in a concert with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and a gift card courtesy of urban fashion retailer DTLR.
Charm City Talent represents an exciting new addition to City Council President Young’s ongoing P.L.A.Y. (Productive Lives, Active Youth) campaign. P.L.A.Y. provides Baltimore’s youth with a wide range of opportunities to strengthen their self-confidence, develop leadership skills, learn from positive role models, and be rewarded athletically for their academic achievements. P.L.A.Y. encourages them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Auditions were held in May at the following city recreation centers: Herring Run, Fred B. Leidig, Ella Bailey, Northwood, V.S. Baker/Patterson Park, Roosevelt and Cahill Performing Arts Center.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. on the Liberty Campus, 2901 Liberty Heights Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
