Details for the public and members of the media are announced for the swearing-in ceremony of the 71st Baltimore City Council.

BALTIMORE, MD – Details for the public and members of the media are announced for the swearing-in ceremony of the 71st Baltimore City Council.

The ceremony will take place at the War Memorial Building (101 N. Gay Street) on Thursday, December 8, 2011. Members of the public and elected officials will be allowed to enter the War Memorial Building beginning at 9 a.m. (Members of the media will be allowed to enter the building at 8:30 a.m. to setup.) The ceremony will begin promptly at 10 a.m. The day’s theme is “Partnerships: the Building Blocks of Progress.” In keeping with the theme of the swearing in, a number of elected officials from neighboring jurisdictions will be on hand to deliver remarks.

WHEN: Thursday, December 8, 2011
Doors open at 9:00 a.m. (Members of the media will be allowed to enter the building at 8:30 a.m. to setup.) Ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 11:15 a.m.

PUBLIC: Members of the public will be allowed to enter the War Memorial Building beginning at 9 a.m. on the Gay Street side by accessing the front steps. Members of the media will be allowed to enter the building at 8:30 a.m. to setup. 

Members of the public are encouraged to take public transportation. The nearest available parking garage is the Baltimore Street Garage at 15 Guilford Avenue. The following items are prohibited: large bags, backpacks, signage, food and beverages.

MEDIA: Media are welcome to cover the swearing in ceremony. Parking for live trucks will be available along the north side of the 100 block of N. Gay Street. Members of the media can begin to setup inside the War Memorial Building at 8:30 a.m.
