The Baltimore Free Farm has won "an exclusive negotiating privilege" for two city-owned empty lots it's already farming, according to the Baltimore Messenger.
On June 25, farm members told the Hampden Community Council that the organization had submitted a "competitive bid" for the land.
"We’re basically just trying to show the city that the community would like to keep that as a green space, and a garden, rather than have developers put up houses," Reagan Hooton, a Baltimore Free Farm member, told the council at that time.
During that meeting, the Hampden Community Council voted to send a letter supporting the group's purchase of the land. Councilman Nick Mosby, who represents that section of the neighborhood, also sent a letter supporting the farm's purchase of the neighborhood.
