Baltimore Police Reassign Northern District Commander

Maj. Sabrina Tapp-Harper, the Northern District commander, has been tapped to head the city’s Special Investigations Section.

Her new unit oversees domestic abuse and sexual assault cases citywide, according to a news release.

"I’m looking forward to the opportunity to continue to contribute to the citizens of Baltimore moving on to the next challenge," Tapp-Harper said.

She said that Police Commissioner Anthony Batts called to inform her of the change in position on Monday. Her replacement has not been announced.

Tapp-Harper took over command at the district two years ago where she had previously served as a sergeant. She is also a North Baltimore resident.

Since Tapp-Harper took over as the district’s commander, there has been a reduction in the most serious crime. But last year the number of homicides spiked by 75 percent, and have kept pace with that so far this year.

Tapp-Harper replaced Ross Buzzuro, who left the department last month to become the police chief in Ocean City, MD.
