Barclay Recreation Center Reopens Saturday

Surrounding neighborhoods and community groups have been working for more than a year to take over the center.

The former Barclay Recreation Center will reopen this weekend as a community center.

The center, which the Greater Homewood Community Corporation, Charles Village, Abell and Harwood communities have been working to turn it into a community hub, will celebrate its official reopening at 11 a.m., Saturday at 300 W. 29th St.

There will also be a 2-mile fun run starting at 9:30 a.m., it costs $10 to participate and the first 50 runners will receive a t-shit, according to an email from the Charles Village Civic Association.
