Charles Village Celebrates National Night Out

The events are supposed to raise awareness about crime in neighborhoods throughout the country.

Sharon Guida, of the Charles Village Civic Association's safety committee, said it's important that communities celebrate National Night Out.

She said two of the most important reasons to hold an event are so police officers understand how important it is for residents to feel safe, and so residents get to know the officers serving in their neighborhood.

That kind of communication was visible as a young woman, who was the victim of a robbery in June, explained to Maj. Kimberly Burris that she was afraid the accused robber would not be prosecuted because she will be out of the country when the case goes to trial.

Charles Village was one of several communities in North Baltimore to hold National Night Out events on Tuesday evening.
