DPW Urges Hurricane Preparation
The city wants residents to take action to prevent the blocking of storm drains.
Hurricane Sandy may bring strong winds and rain to Baltimore on Sunday night and Monday, and the Department of Public Works is urging residents to clear storm drains ahead of time.
In a news release, the department asks residents to secure trash and loose debris as well as raking and mulching leaves ahead of the storm because they could block drains and add to flooding.
"Check your storm drains now. Sweep and bag leaves or trash you may find at storm drain inlets along your curb or in your alley. If the drain appears to be blocked, please call 311 now so DPW crews can address," the department wrote in the release.

The department also asks that residents in low lying areas near water to be aware of the potential for flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, the hurricane is currently approaching the central Bahamas and could generate "a sprawling storm" bringing wind, rain and high waves to the Northeast by early next week.
