Hampden Ice Cream Shop Requests Outdoor Seating

A proposed candy and ice cream store in Hampden is requesting approval for outdoor seating.

The Baltimore Board of Municipal and Zoning Appeals is scheduled to hear a request on Tuesday to allow outdoor seating at The Charmery, 801 W. 36th St.

The board’s decision will be announced Wednesday morning.

The shop is anticipated to open later this month, according to the Baltimore Fishbowl.

The store has been vacant since September 2011, when the pharmacy that occupied the space for 20 years closed. It’s owner Patrick Burke said he was closing in part because of concerns about a proposed Walmart in Remington that now may not come to fruition.

"The bottom line is that even if they don’t kill you, they hurt you enough," Burke said at the time about Walmart.
