High Winds Causing Damage, Outages

Gusts up to 55 mph have blown down trees and caused property damage.

High winds in the Baltimore area have blown down trees, caused property damage and cut power in some places.

BGE is reporting as of 5 p.m. a total of more than 56,000 customers without power with 12,144 of those in Baltimore.

The Bryn Mawr School reported a loss of power and telephone lines due to the wind and was forced to close early, according to its website.

The Maryland Department of Transportation has also issued a high wind warning and is asking motorists to use caution on the roads.

According to the National Weather Service, a northwest wind up to 29 mph will continue with gusts up to 55 mph possible. The wind is expected to decrease to between 8 mph and 11 mph as the night goes on.
