Keep Your 'Wild Things' Busy This Weekend

A look at area adventures for your kids.

Shrek The Musical begins its tour in Baltimore this week at the Hippodrome theatre.  Judging from the video posted on the Shrek website this is going to be an amazing performance and one that the entire family will enjoy.  Hurry to get your tickets for one of the limited afternoon performances and avoid the late night crankies with the little ones.

It will be worth the 20 minute drive to Masonville Cove Educational Center (1000 Frankfurst Ave Baltimore, MD 21226). This nature center has partnered with Living Classrooms for project based learning about conservation efforts to protect our watershed.  This Saturday, come and explore “Science Alive for Kids Under Five! Boats!” The science alive series is a once a month FREE science workshop for children under five years old.

The Walters Art Gallery will be hosting drop in art activities from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday.  This program is so much more than making a project to take home.  The Walters Art Gallery has devoted an entire floor to the interests of children in the basement level that includes an artifact exploration area, a medieval dress up chest, puppet show area, computer game station and a cozy reading area as well as a bookshelf full of puzzles, games and manipulatives.  Additionally, the rest of the museum features carts that offer costumes for loan and backpacks filled with games, stories and activities separated by age group and themed by each exhibit.  This is a free weekend service. Check anything out from any cart and just bring it back by three o’clock!  In a recent trip to the Walters, a medieval themed tote that we checked out kept me and my three year old busy for three hours in just the Medieval exhibit! This program is a true gem!
