Maryland National Guard Renovates Mt. Washington Firehouse Kitchen

Baltimore City Fire Department’s Engine Company 45 firehouse in Mt. Washington received a new kitchen Tuesday courtesy of the Maryland National Guard.

Guard members installed new cabinets, countertops and fixtures in the kitchen of the station, located at 2700 Glenn Ave., which was built in 1951, according to a news release from the mayor’s office.

"We are grateful to the Maryland National Guard for working with us to find training opportunities for soldiers and to improve the conditions in our aging firehouses," Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said in the news release. "It is a natural partnership for us, because our first responders often train with Guard members to prepare for natural and manmade disasters."

The kitchen renovation was the first project in a partnership with members of the Maryland National Guard’s 244th Engineer Company to renovate firehouses citywide.

"As a community-based organization, the Maryland Army National Guard is happy to support our neighbors in the Baltimore Fire Department," Gen. Peter C. Hinz said in the news release. "The firefighters' selfless service stands as a model for us all. If this gesture improves their readiness and morale, we will all benefit."
