I voted Retail, because Hampden needs stores with affordable everyday goods. I can't find everything I need at Rite-Aid.

Here in Charles Village, we need for our "benefits" district to spend more on safety patrols by off duty police officers and less on trashcans. We do not need to be Trashcan Village. We were promised safety patrols 24/7, and that is what we should have.
In fact, if almost all of our surtax money were spent on patrols by off duty police, we could have patrols by two off duty officers 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. We need more than the very minimal patrols provided for in the CVCBD budget.

Hampden/Medfield needs a Charm City Circulator and some normal everyday stores - neither dumpy liquor stores nor hipster boutiques. Don't get my wrong, I love the shops on the Avenue, but they are destination shops, they don't serve everyday needs. As far as food, I wouldn't mind seeing one of those soft serve yogurt shops; and some kind of mainstream food shop - not a TGI Fridays or anything like that, but maybe a Panera. I support the idea of supporting local businesses, but I don't think a Panera would totally suburbanize the neighborhood...

Over here in Southwest Baltimore City we need more middle class residents buying homes. Because of the housing slump people who can't sell their homes but have to move (or want to get out) are renting their homes. It is starting to wear on the area.
