Public to Bid Farewell to Schaefer Next Week

William Donald Schaefer will lie in repose in the State House rotunda in Annapolis on Monday and in the City Hall rotunda next Monday evening and Tuesday. His funeral is scheduled for next Wednesday.

The body of former Gov. William Donald Schaefer, who died Monday at the age of 89, will be placed on display to the public in Annapolis and Baltimore City next week before being laid to rest in Baltimore County.

Schaefer's body will also be taken on a procession through the city and past famous landmarks associated with Schaefer's four terms as mayor—Harborplace, the National Aquarium and the stadiums, said Michael Golden, who served as Schaefer's press secretary in Annapolis.

Schaefer will lie in repose from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, in the State House rotunda. The casket will then be transported to Baltimore, passing several city landmarks associated with Schaefer's four terms as mayor. A complete list of landmarks will be released later today, Golden said.

Schaefer's casket is expected to arrive at City Hall at 5 p.m. Monday, where he will lie in repose until 9 p.m., Golden said. The public can visit the casket again from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. next Tuesday as well.

The funeral will be next Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Old St. Paul's Church at Charles and Saratoga streets in Baltimore. Golden said arrangements are still being finalized.

Interment will be in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where Schaefer's body will be placed in a crypt alongside Hilda Mae Snoops, his longtime companion, Golden said.
