'Slumlord' Blogger Garners National Attention

The Atlantic Cities profiles Baltimore Slumlord Watch blogger Carol Ott.

An Atlantic Cities article is drawing national attention to the work of a local blogger fighting vacant and blighted properties in Baltimore.

Carol Ott runs Baltimore Slumlord Watch, a blog that tracks down and exposes the owners of neglected properties all over the city.

"I have a tendency to be rather abrasive," Ott told Atlantic Cities. "I’ve upset quite a few people."

According to her blog, she started the project in 2009 as a way to start a conversation about "slumlords" in the city, and to prevent out of town investors from destroying communities through neglect of property.

The blog has won several local awards including the Baltimore City Paper naming it "Best Citizen Journalism."
